LongPan Co., Ltd., a leading provider of high precision machined parts for various industries, has recently made a breakthrough in the production of corrosion-resistant steel for water propellers. The company has been able to fabricate samples of maraging steel through the direct laser deposition method using steel powder 06Cr15Ni4CuMo.

The urgency of heat treatment of maraging steel samples obtained by direct laser deposition is of utmost importance to ensure their mechanical properties are optimized to withstand the high stress and corrosive environment that water propellers are exposed to. This led LongPan to conduct a study on the structural features and properties of 06Cr15Ni4CuMo steel samples after direct laser deposition and heat treatment.

The research primarily focused on investigating the influence of thermal processing on the formation of structure and the mechanical properties of deposit samples. Optical microscopy was used to study the features of the formation of microstructural components, while tests for tension and impact toughness were conducted to evaluate the samples' strength characteristics.

The results of the research showed that the material obtained through the direct laser deposition method in its initial state significantly exceeds the strength characteristics of heat treatment castings of similar chemical composition. However, it is inferior to cast metal in terms of impact toughness and relative elongation.

To address this limitation, the samples were subjected to subsequent heat treatment, which led to the formation of the structure of tempered martensite and a reduction in its content at two-stage tempering in the structure of the metal. This led to an increase in relative elongation and impact toughness in deposit samples, bringing them to the level of cast material. The strength of the material is also reduced to the level of cast metal after heat treatment.

The breakthrough in the heat treatment of corrosion-resistant steel for water propellers is significant to the marine industry, as it allows for the production of propellers that can withstand the harsh ocean environment. LongPan's expertise in producing high-precision machined parts for various industries, including the automobile, medical, and railway industries, makes them well-positioned to bring this breakthrough to the market.
